Young Dairy Development Program (YDDP)

YDDP was established in 2002 and went statewide in 2007. Its objectives are to:

  • deliver events that increase participants’ professional and personal development
  • engage young people or new entrants who are geographically or demographically isolated
  • make it easy for participants to be aware of development opportunities

A Co-ordinator (Kylie Barry) works closely with the dairy industry service groups, including DPI, milk factories, NCDEA and many others. She supports YDDP committees in Warragul, Maffra and Fish Creek to help plan and then deliver their topics. Examples are an information evening on calf rearing, a seminar on ‘Should I take wages or a sharefarmer agreement?’

Funding: Genetics Australia Cooperative, Rural Finance Corporation, Dairy Australia, GippsDairy, Murray Dairy, WestVic Dairy, Fonterra, Department of Primary Industries, Warrnambool Cheese and Butter, and the NCDEA together with a range of other smaller sponsors.
